    Did You Know???

• Everyone born after January 1, 1989 must complete a certified boating safety education class to operate any motorized boat in Wisconsin.
   
• When boating on the Great Lakes, children age 13 and under must wear a PFD while above decks and underway.
   
• You can potentially receive a 10 - 15% discount on your boat insurance just for completing one of our classes!

1. Boat Wisconsin - A Course in Responsible Boating
                       (DNR sponsored)
    
   • April 23, 26, 30, May 3 & 7, 2012
   • Mon & Thu sessions run from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
   • This is a course both youth and adults enjoy and that satisfies the State requirements for boaters age 12+.  Topics include:
     • Know Your Boat
     • Before You Get Underway
     • Operating Your Boat Safety
     • Legal Requirements For Boating
     • Boating Emergencies
     • Enjoying Water Sports
     • State of Wis. Boating Regulations
   • Cost $10.00.
   • This course is conducted by the USCG Auxiliary.
   • Classes are held at the Fond du Lac Yacht Club.

     • Enjoying Water Sports

   • This course is conducted by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department.
   • Classes are held at the Fond du Lac City/County Government Building

3. Boating Skills and Seamanship 
    
   • This course is offered on demand only. 
   • This is an adult level course that focuses on:
     • Which Boat Is For You
     • Equipment For Your Boat
     • Trailering Your Boat
     • Handling Your Boat
     • Your "Highway" Signs
     • The Rules of the Nautical Road
     • Inland Boating
     • Boating Safely
     • You are also introduced to VHF radios, marlinspike and GPS navigation.
   • Cost $35.00. 
     
      
4. Coastal Navigation - This two-hour short course demonstrates basic navigational skills with practical application using charts, dividers and parallel rulers.  
    
   • This course is held on demand only.
   • This is a hands-on course that covers:
     • Bearings
     • Headings
     • Compass Deviation
     • Dead Reckoning
     • Determining Position
   • Cost $ 10.00.  Free to any graduated Boating Skills & Seamanship attendee - just show your card.
